The Snipe was a type I have never seen before. There seems to have been three of these at Masterton (plus one static for the RAF Museum - E6655). The one marked 'E8102' was ZK-SBT in 2011 and went to the USA for Kermit Weeks. The two others are ZK-SNI (March 2013) and ZK-SBY (October 2013). Not sure which one of these two F2367 is - can anyone confirm? It gave quite a brief display Rather a pig-ugly profile on the ground

Based on the info in the "On the Wings of History" from TVAL SNI was on show this past weekend. It was registered back in April while SBY was registered in October. I have not been able to find any images of SBY!

I think ZK-SBY was the set of uncovered wings and fuselage in the old Air Contracts hangar, (unless there is another one). If there is a complete ZK-SBY, I didn't see it on Friday either.

I'd like to know a bit about the Albatros D.386/16. A D II model maybe? How long has it been flying and how many Albatroses have been completed thus far?

The new book about TVAL's collection lists all of the Albatros, but I'm at work at the moment and the book is at home.
I'll look it up when I get home later this evening, unless someone else has posted the details on this thread in the meantime.

Yes it is a D.II, c/n 0094 and must have flown around the beginning of August as that's when it appears on TVAL's Facebook page.
The DVa-1's are,
ZK-DVA, as D5284/17,c/n 8258 registered 141009. ZK-TBB, as ? c/n 1267 registered 280311, canx 191211 to N19175 ZK-TVD, as D7343 c/n 0083 registered 301111, canx 161112, to RAF Museum, Hendon ZK-TVE, as ? c/n 0084 registered 200912.

I used to lament the fact that short sighted people destroyed this nation's only Albatros war prize back in 1943 or so. I would never have thought we'd see five of them fly in New Zealand. It's so awesome and really incredible.

It's so awesome and really incredible. And just over a couple of weeks ago, some of us lucky buggers got to see three of the five Albatros flying in formation at Hood Aerodrome.

The Avro 504 incident has made it into the CAA accident reports:
"Aircraft's engine lost power while climbing through 200ft AGL. A forced landing was made on grass 28, however with insufficient engine power to arrest the rate of descent a heavy landing was made, damaging the aircraft. The engine had earlier stopped during taxi, likely due to low fuel tank air pressure during the long taxi, with the fuel tank requiring pressurisation from a hand pump while on the ground."

It is sad that such a historic aircraft was damaged, but it's in the right hands to be repaired again hopefully.

I hope it is repaired as well and you're right, it's probably in the best possible hands. I believe that when Antique Aeroworks were restoring her they also managed to secure the remains of 504K ZK-ACN, Serial A201 which was advertised for sale after the death of Stu Tantrum. Does anyone know what became of that?

First I have heard of that development, but it sounds interesting. I'd like to know more. ZK-ACN was the first of the 1925 NZPAF batch, and served from September 1925 until sold in June 1931 for fifty pounds. It became ZK-ACN with Leslie Brake & Gordon Paul on 29Sep1931, initially with a Wanganui address but then became an itinerant joyrider around at least the upper part of the North Island. After several escapades ownership passed to Matamata Aero Syndicate (M Hutchinson) of (would you believe it) Matamata 22May1933. At one point, in the late 1930s, the upper wing of ZK-ACS was used on this aircraft. Finally, ZK-ACN was WFU at Tauranga & dismantled in the old Elizabeth Street hangar. Parts sold & cut up, registration cancelled in Jan1940.
