I will definitely be there as I'm on a rostered Friday-Saturday-Sunday-Monday long-weekend off over that particular weekend. It will be interesting to see how the new format for TVAL airshows works in practise. I haven't seen any more info about the mentioned VIP area for hard-core attendees of TVAL's airshows. I would be a definite starter for that, even if it involved paying a higher level of admission price for what I presume would be a gold-pass-style facility.

It's getting more interesting, another Snipe, ZK-SBY registered yesterday.

"See the first public debut of the Albatros D.II" How many public debuts are they expecting it to have?

Plan to be there. Flying south this afternoon, back Sunday morning. I'll be wearing my WONZ shirt!

Fingers crossed for good weather.
It's perfect for an airshow today. Hope it lasts until after tomorrow.

Are you in Masterton already?
I'll be at Hood when the gates open at 1:00pm.
The forecast is for a bit of drizzle with a light southerly in the morning, clearing up by afternoon.
At least the nor'wester isn't howling, which is good.
I'm currently clearing out the contents of the memory cards in my cameras (they're still full of images from Classic Fighters, so I'm shifting them to a couple of external hard-drives), and I'll give all of the camera batteries a bit of a tickle-up throughout the rest of the evening and overnight.

I hope you all have a great day down there, with safe flying, and great weather. I'm looking forward to the photos and feedback. I'll be having enough fun up here with our own Armistice event.

Only stayed for 35 mins. Got the Fletcher in the new scheme and a quick look at the line ups.Think there was 21 aircraft outside. Was looking for the new Snipe, maninly to see what it's painted up as but couldn't see it. Returning in early afternoon after a bit of time at the Pahiatua Railcar Society showing some folk around. Watch out for the new "Air Tractor Cap". Two good runs in RM31 today with about 70 passengers. Another run from Pahiatua to Ashhurst on Sunday. Will be there Sunday morning if anyone wants a look around.

An absolute cracker of an afternoon at Hood Aerodrome.
Twenty-four WWI flying-machines on the flight-line and all flew except for one of the two Sopwith Pups which remained on the ground (a couple of aeroplanes stayed in the hangar).
The Avro 504K appeared to lose engine power just after takeoff, but seemed to recover, then it lost power again and suffered a rather hard landing with one wing-tip hitting the ground, however the pilot walked away from it and there was no obvious damage to the aeroplane, so fingers crossed. I imagine they will give it a thorough inspection before clearing it to fly again.
There was a light southerly wind and the afternoon started off cloudy, but then the clouds cleared away and it was a beautiful sunny day. Clouds prevailed again right at the end of the display. One slight problem with the new setup for TVAL airshows is that you are looking into the sun (when the clouds aren't there), although it wasn't a major issue.
Seeing the three Albatros in the air together (two D.Va and one D.II) was an amazing experience. I love the sound of those beautiful Mercedes engines, and three of them together is a beautiful symphony of sound.
There were more than a few Aussie accents amongst the crowd, with quite a considerable number having popped across The Ditch for the weekend to indulge in a WWI aviation fix.
Now I've got a couple of thousand photographs to sort through over the next few days, clearing out the dross and picking out a selection of good ones.

Great photos and report Bruce. I hope the Avro is ok, that's among my favourites in that collection.
