Oh cool. I've just found out how to reply to multiple posts in one hit My impression is that the current CDF is a manager rather than a leader. Way things look Goff and the old guard maybe on the way out. He would never admit responsibility. He and Burton did more damage to NZDF than most foreign enemies could. In days gone by we could've hung them from the nearest yardarm as traitors. What will be interesting is who is going to be the new CDF. It won't be the current CN,R Adm Jack Steer, because he's new to the job so relatively junior, plus he has had press problems recently. So who else would be in the running?

Personally I think Jack Steer is the best man for the job. I really don't give a stuff about what he did 20 years ago, he's a bloody good leader and a top bloke too. I hope both Gawn and Keating are kept well clear of the job too tbh, very much the same type of "managers" as Jones. On another note, BRIG Trengrove was not reappointed to Director of Reserves either.

Stood down is a bit misleading. Being stood down is a disciplinary procedure, the CDF is not having his 3 year term extended and his contract is expiring. Shame about Trengrove though, good supporter of NZCF which comes under his command.

Is it usually the head of each seperate force that is promoted into the job or can is be any one of the high ranking officers that are at the level of Air Commodore or equal and above. I reckon TD Davies will get the Air Force top job one day but probably slightly new to staff rank at present

I reckon AVM Short could be next in line for CAF, he's currently in command of Joint Forces.

Don't forget AVM Graham Lintott is still lurking around in Washington DC. He didn't retire after his CAF contract expired.

Last I heard, which was earlier this year, AVM Graham Lintott is the defence attaché to the USA.
