Jet Warbirds in NZ

Noted at MCR Aviation

By our calculations, the NZ jet warbird scene will soon be made up of 18 aircraft comprised of:
4 L29 Delfin (JET, JRF, SSU, VAU)
5 L39 Albatros (CCP, TCS, VLK, WLM, N39ED)
4 BAC167 Strikemaster (STR, VPR, NZ6372 plue the 4th due for import to Ardmore from Western Australia soon)
1 Venom (VNM)
2 Vampire (RVM, VAM)
1 A37 Dragonfly (JTL)
1 Hawker Hunter (JIL - not flying but still registered)

I think I've only seen 6 of these flying, so something to aim for!

Once upon a time... and many haircuts ago,I wangled an absolutely magical and unforgettable half-hour in a Hunter T7 of 20 Sqn RAF at Tengah so I've always been particularly pleased to see it flying in New Zealand. I have heard, however, that, it cost in the region of $20,000-00 an hour to run!

The Hunter is Dave Philips' one. Last I heard he was concerned with airframe stress and metal fatigue to the point of never flying it again.
