Can anyone identify the C-47 flying on a roughly-NE track across Hamilton at approx 1630 on 15 April 2014?
It was just on cloud-height (3,000 ft?) so was in silhouette as it flew across the Seddon Park / Tristram Street/ Mill Street section of the CBD.
Delightful to hear, and see (such as it was), but what was it doing? (Yes, I know, 'Flying'...)
Thanks.

Probably the Air Chathams one on its way to Wanaka?

Thanks, for the suggestion but as it was going NORTH, I have my doubts, unless it was going to Ardmore to uplift passengers? I did wonder if it was -DAK, but as it was a Tuesday, it seemed a little unusual.

It flew to Tauranga the other day so maybe returning to Auckland to pick up its Wanaka passengers?

Indeed it was ZK-AWP, I suspect it has been carrying out proving flights, perhaps for NZCAA? It did the Auckland-Tauranga-Auckland detail and then Auckland-Hamilton-Auckland. It is perched in the hangar today, I suspect the weather has precluded a departure if indeed it was planning to head south as early as today. To the best of my knowledge ZK-DAK is not heading south this year but stand to be corrected. Is the Jean Batten, N451ZS, still at Omaka??

Thanks area51, much appreciated. A shame that -DAK isn't going south; seeing more than one C-47 / DC-3 in any place is now a rare event. Perhaps in 2016...

Warbirds over Wanaka without ZK-DAK - is that a first?

I think it is Al.
In the last hour the cyclone that has been lashing the place has suddenly stopped dead, the sun is out and the birds are tweeting. It's calm and the rain has stopped. Maybe there's hope for tomorrow morning for aircraft to get down there.
