Wow, an unusual one that is for sure. It will probably be one of the aircraft I have certified maintenance for in the past. There will be a contingent of Kiwi's working out at Perth airport involved in that one. National Jet have operated the type for what seems like an eternity, - Cobham (now) will have a wealth of experience on the type. It will be an interesting investigation. Presumably the fire was extinguished shortly after the pics were taken.

I fly Cobham to work every week but they also get me back home every week too, so thats a bonus. Those old 146's are pretty much like buses really, no creature comforts and the staff seem to do the best with what theyve been given. From what I've heard the flight crew are very experienced on type. I'm off to work tomorrow morning, pretty confidant it wont be on that particular plane!

Ah the old QuadraPuff - four oil leaks connected by an electrical fault.... Seriously though, it was good to see a safe ending to this story. The -146 in this part of the world has been an honest, get the job done without drama or glamour, machine for the best part of a generation. I work with many guys who flew them in NZ and I've heard countless stories about how mostly wonderful they were. Sometimes you feel like you need to nudge them and ask them if they are talking about their first jet or their first girlfriend I see them often in Aussie and I still think they are up there with the 'prettiest' of all jet airliners.

I agree Al, the BAe 146 looks good from every angle.

Indeed AL, "4 oil leaks connected by an electrical fault." a phrase I first heard from a certain Chris Shrimpton a former colleague and production test pilot at Hatfield on the 146…before it got turned into an industrial estate and shopping centre…
Here for your edification guys…
