Hello all readers , I have just acquired a large paper / photographic "archive " of a guy called K G Reader who won the 1967 Rothman's Air race see pictures . I can't find anything on the Internet relating to this race i have only briefly started looking at it but the archive starts in the UK with simple items such as driving licence , books on joining the RAF , seems to go to Canada and then on to NZ , he joined lots of Air clubs and there are many letters regarding this , Insurance documents on Aircraft ZK-AKF , ZK-AEJ , items relating to leasing buildings from the Queen at Paraparaumu , instruction booklet for T-33 Mk 3 ( 70 page ) , Boy Scout links in NZ , personal letters to and from England In brief there would seem to be lost of interesting items relating fling in NZ in the 1960s , I am looking to ell the whole archive and would be grateful if anyone could point me in the direction of any potential purchaser , I can be contacted by email at ttsscc@ntlworld.com

Hi Chaps, Not really sure that there is a resale market for Gordon's history? I know the email address of the UK guy who bought his Gipsy Moth but do not see that he would necessarily want Gordon's history. What sort of money are we talking to purchase please. Thanks, Cheers. Waggersting.

IF (and only 'if') there is a pressing need to dispose of these records, would the National Library of New Zealand be an appropriate repository? (Not Te Papa BTW; they are not especially 'user friendly' towards researchers and tend to hold everything very close to their chests, unlike the National Library).
BTW: Is there an actual 'national repository' for 'aviation-related' things in New Zealand? The RNZAF has the Wigram museum, but what about GA?
Because this subject will inevitably re-surface, it would be useful to know.
Thanks.

Talking about Rothmans and aviation, I seem to vaguely remember a de Havilland Dominie/Dragon-Rapide painted in Rothmans colours dropping into Bridge Pa aerodrome way back in the dim-darks, possibly in the 1970s. The title of this thread suddenly switched on a lightbulb deep inside my brain. Can anybody shed any light on that aeroplane?

Yes, ZK-AKU when owned by Dave Gray - 'Rothmans Sports Foundation' I think it involved Rothmans sponsorship of parachuting when the Dominie was used as a jump ship. At Ardmore, 1972

Rothmans put a lot of money into sports in the 60-70's,but especially aviation, the CEO of Rothmans NZ Ken Simich was a keen amatuer pilot,he had a Tiger Moth and gliders based at Waharoa.I think he was ex RNZAF.

He will have been NZ433368 Kenneth Lawrence Simich who enlisted at Omaka on 19 Mar 43. He was an ex-Air Training Corps cadet. Errol

AKU was in the London to Sydney Air Race at the end of 1969 and was in the Rothmans colours for that event. The crew were Dave Grey, Jack Moon and Ray Cooney. I had some photos of AKU and the crew that I took in Griffith NSW during an overnight stop prior to the last leg to Sydney but after meeting Jack Moon's son a few years ago at an Avalon Air Show, I passed the photos on to the son as he was making a historical record of Jack's life. Dave subsequently had me type rated on AKU a few years later when I lived in Napier.
