Vietnam Military History Museum - Ha Noi

Last year during my first visit through Hanoi naturally I had to stop and have a look at the Military History Museum whilst in town.

Saw Mig-21s flying low level and fast when in Hoi An recently, wicked sound. Too bad the museum birds aren't in such a great condition.

They are also very proud of this B-52 they have on display just a few Km from the museum.




Not the easiest place to find though.

It is just metres south of West Lake where John McCain took his swim in 1967.


I am guessing he would have been in the 'Hanoi Hilton' when that B-52 came down. You can only imagine the commotion during those raids, scary stuff.

I kid you not me and my two friends on the back of my honda win spent a whole afternoon trying to find this lake, we had no luck! Definitely not the easiest to find.

I found these two maps to be most interesting. Hanoi is really a very small city and it is interesting to compare what must have been US military intelligence at the time.

GOOD MORNING VIETNAM, .. good to see a few items been cleaned up , the gate guardian Mig tho, really needs some attention - maybe a job for me .. that map is damn interesting , the infamous 'Son Tay'camp course the Hilton.

My local fish and chip man and family have a shop two hundred meters from me, went I first introduced myself seventeen years back I asked were was from, he said Vietnam - I instantly replied Saigon .. he quickly come back and said "Ho chi minh city".

A regular visitor at my place here, stopping to pick up books and chat, joust, the thing that stuck with me was quick reply,"Ho chi minh city" so many years back and it stuck in my brain case like that .. Chen most interested in the western perspective or least the publications I have.
