If you go to this site you get photos taken near or on D-Day 6th of June 1944. What you do is click on the left of the photo hold down the mouse button and slowly move it to the right. The wartime photo morphs to show what that area looks like today. Very interesting and quite strange to see nothing showing what was there, which I suppose is usually the case as time marches on. I liked the way you could carefully move the mouse and have a sort of ghostly 1944/2014 effect. So wish i could be there for the ceremonies. I wanted to visit the beaches when I was there in 2001 but a bad head cold put paid to that idea. Teresa and I want to visit there when we do go. Dave imagine the Podcast interviews!!

I'd like to visit several places in France someday, but moreso I'd really love to visit Italy and see some of the battle sites there. I have met a lot of kiwis who flew on D Day and in the days surrounding it. And I have talked to a couple who were there in small boats too. It's a fascinating period in history. Something I find incredibly interesting is the complete broadcast of CBS radio coverage of the landings, which you can download from here: archive.org/details/CBD440606CBSDDayCBS
