Bob Jens' Mosquito, restored to flight by Vicair, flew this morning at around 6.30am NZ time. Well done to the team.
As KA114 is currently in Canada I hope they can get together for an air-to-air shoot.

Fantastic news! Seems it's been about 25 years or so since Kermit Weeks' own B.35 flew, which was the last airworthy bomber Mossie.
Congratulations to Mr Jens, the VAM team and the test flight crew. Brilliant!

Yes indeed, brilliant. It has two-speed two-stage Merlins; should go like stink at altitude.

This just in from Robert Peel:
"the vicair mossie flew twice more on Wednesday with a T-28 escort carrying a documentary film maker. The second flight was cut short because of recurring undercarriage problems. She should be delivered to her owner today or tomorrow."

Planes of Fame shared a few pics on Facebook from Steve Hinton, who has been doing the test flying. Sounds like all's well :-)

A bit sad about the owners plans for this aircraft. While I admire him for restoring this great aircraft, it will never fly again in his ownership, just like his Spitfire XIV. It will just sit in the hangar at YVR for him (and special guests) to look at. I've seen the Spitfire outside the hangar once being washed, but that was it. And I go past there most days to work.
Perhaps people out there might be able to persuade him to keep it flying. Fingers crossed!!!

Thanks Errol - thanks for the link to Richard de Boer of Calgary Mosquito Society and his blog on this plane - a very touching and readable story. noooby - that too is sad, and relates to his specific wishes for no publication of flying trials or even witnesses to the events of getting it airworthy and certified.

I don't know if info about TV959 is public, shorty. It was last reported arriving at Ardmore.

TV959 is being restored to fly, as widely reported elsewhere. Photos and information are verboten, as per the wishes of the owner.
