Hi Guys, A quick trip to the capital saw me visiting the waterfront, which is quite a pleasant stroll, with significant reminders of New Zealand's naval and nautical history. Here are a few images I took a couple of days ago. I decided to put these in the navy pages owing to the number of naval references I photographed. Although not all are strictly nautical, they are on the water front. A cheeky sign on a building near Te Papa: A rather neat sculpture: A 100 gun salute commemmorating 100 years since the outbreak of war, although the salute was actually only 98 shots to begin with, then realising their mistake, the gunners shot a couple more a bit later! I didn't get closer since I had my daughter with me and the noise was distracting for her: Along the water front is a series of plaques commemmorating different events, with the most prominent being the Wahine disaster: The Wahine's fore mast: The plaque on the mast: The Spanish Civil War memorial: The United States Marine Corps memorial: The 2nd Marine Division plaque underneath the USMC memorial: The Korean War memorial: Polish Children of Pahiatua: The Pamir memorial: More next.

More Wellington waterfront. The Lt Nobu Shirase and the Japanese Antarctic expedition memorial: 1st Battalion New Zealand Regiment in the Malayan Emergency memorial: The first HMNZS Endeavour memorial: The Shaw Savill Line memorial: The Vindicatrix Training vessel memorial: The British and Commonwealth Merchant Seamen memorial: New Zealanders in the Arctic Convoys memorial: 25 Infantry Battalion, 2 NZEF memorial: Motor Vessel Goya memorial: Some rather decorative palm trees: Lastly, the former RNZN Moa Class Inshore Patrol Vessel HMNZS Wakakura, or at least I'm assuming it's the Wakakura, since that ship was stationed in Wellington. Thanks for looking.

That building in the first photo with the moving sign is the NZ Stock Exchange, although the ground floor also has a bar in it.
