I am in Manchester, England. This morning (15/08/2014) at around 11-30 a.m. I heard the familiar sound of a Rolls Royce Merlin engine. I went outside and there was a Spitfire droning across the sky. I live 3 miles from Manchester Airport and presumed this was where it was heading. I went onto Flight Radar24.com and I think the registration was ZKKCE, which is described as a private owner aircraft, but no further details given. It had not landed at Manchester, but had travelled south as far as Buckinghamshire before turning and heading north again. Does anyone have any information about this aircraft and if it now resides in the UK?

You probably saw a Spitfire which if it was VFR would not been on FlightRadar but somewhere six thousand feet above it would have been ZK-KCE which you would not have seen. ZK-KCE left New Zealand a year ago and is based at Hinton on meat bombing.

I saw a Spitfire over England, actually over Southend-On-Sea, on Sunday June 15. Came in over the Thames headed for Southend. Wasn't until it had got substantially overhead that I could pick up the wing profile. Haven't heard a Merlin in years....Son had said earlier in the day he'd heard a single engine aircraft depart Southend that certainly hadn't the regular beat. Saw a Vulcan too, around June 2nd, taking off from who knows where. We were heading York way mid afternoon when it appeared low on the horizon and banked giving a clear profile.

I have found that ZK-KCE is a private owner Pacific Aerospace P350 which originates from New Zealand. As suggested the sighted Spitfire would not have been evident on FlightRadar24.com with VFR communication. Quite a few spotters have reported seeing the Spitfire passing over our area at about 1500-2000 feet. Can't yet find any specific details.
