The following rules have been formulated by the moderation team and longterm members of the forum. They will be in place from now on, and I expect every member to please comply with them. This is to protect the forum, protect you the members, protect myself and to protect the privacy of individuals such as aircraft owners, etc.
Rule 1 - If you won't say what you are posting to someone's face, or put it in a letter to them, don't post it here. We don't want gossip, libel or slander.
Rule 2 - If you have some photos or info from a hangar visit or through contact with anyone, please ensure that you have permission to post them on the internet before doing so.
Rule 3 - While free discussion is encouraged here, please don't post hearsay or unsubstantiated info, unless you are prepared to stand behind what you have posted.
Rule 4 - If you have a 'scoop' story about some development in aviation, particularly sales or purchases of aircraft, or arrivals of airframes in the country, etc, please ensure that your posting of that news will not jeopardise any financial dealings being made between the parties concerned. Check your facts and get permission to speak, and state you have permission to do so.
Rule 5 - Remember that this is a public forum and is read and enjoyed by all sorts of people around NZ and the world, including those we look up to in the aviation world. And remember that all age groups including children are also reading so keep that in mind when posting please.
Rule 6 - Added 9 May 2008 - The RNZAF's Public Relations Officer, Squadron Leader Glenn Davis, has granted permission for official RNZAF photographs to be used on this forum. However if you are aware of the fact they are official photos, you MUST accredit them correctly.
They are to be credited:
'RNZAF Official' for photos less than 20 years old.
or
'Air Force Museum of New Zealand' for photos taken by the RNZAF more than 20 years ago.
Rule 7 - It has been an unwritten rule since the beginning of this forum - and has been mentioned in the past - that posts are to be made in clear English. If the English language is your second language, fine - we will make allowances of course.
However phone text-style abbreviated and un-punctuated language is not permitted and will likely be removed if the poster persists in not writing their posts clearly for all to understand. Remember there are readers here of all ages, nationalities and backgrounds. We want everyone to have a fair chance of reading and understanding your posts.
Thread titles are also to be a clear description of what the thread is about, and posts should be clear and concise - not cryptic or abbreviated. People are not mind readers.
Rule 8 Added 13 April 2009 - Please do not put moving image films into your profile signature. In the past this has been done and many members with slower connections to the internet find that these often slow their use of the forum down. The tiny avatar films are ok.
Rule 9 Added 13 April 2009 - As a result of disputes that have erupted off the forum between forum members, which involve copyright issues and allegedly libelous comments made on the forum, the maker of the RNZAF Skyhawk film "Supersonic Life" has requested that all posts containing discussion of the film be removed, and no future discussion of the film take place on the forum. I have complied with this willingly.
DO NOT MENTION THIS FILM OR ITS MAKERS ON THE FORUM AGAIN PLEASE OR YOUR POSTS WILL BE REMOVED
This has caused me a lot of grief trying to sort out other people's problems, and this is an end to it.
Rule 10 Added 28 April 2010 - This has been stated by the moderation team over and over in the past and I am now making it an official rule because people continue to go against our wishes. In the event of an accident, whatever you might think was the cause - based on media reports and personal experience - you are not welcome to express idle speculation and uninformed opinions about the causes of the crash please. Wait until the aircraft investigators have done their job and the official report is released. Speculation can cause a lot of distress and harm to those connected with an investigation, particularly if the media picks up on it.
Rule 11 Added 21 June 2010 - Just to clarify what has been written as policy elsewhere on the forum since before these rules were created, it was decided by a majority of members via a poll, that we should not allow the discussion of general politics here on the forum. The only acceptable exceptions of political discussion is when the topic is related to aviation or the Armed Forces, which is within the scope of the forum's interests
Rule 12 Personal attacks perpetrated by a member against another member will not be tolerated, and will result in disciplinary action and possible banning from the forum.
Rule 13 -It is generally well known in NZ aviation circles that collector John Smith of Mapua asks people who visit his collection not to post photos of his collection publicly on the internet. Please abide by his wishes and don't post any here. Rule deleted, it is now fine to post these photos into the John Smith Collection thread here as posting the photos are no longer a security risk to the collection which has moved on, and we encourage sharing historical photos of John's collection.
Rule 14 - Following recent cases where individuals have seen fit to create multiple accounts so they can either add weight to their argument or to simply cause trouble, it is hereby ruled that any forum member found doing this without good reason will likely have their accounts closed without further notice. Rule added 2/10/2010
Rule 15: Posts or responses made by forum members concerning airlines, other aviation companies, or air arms, shall not be worded or commented on in any way which may result in conflict or rivalry that may lead to personal attacks, or other forms of insult, against any forum member. All members have the responsibility to act maturely. Members are encouraged to refresh themselves with Rules 1, 3, 5, and 12.
Rule 16: Do not post replies to any spam posts. If you see a spam post simply hit the Report Post button which is found in the drop-down menu when you click the round gear symbol on the top-right of any post. This will allow you to leave a message for the moderators to see, so that they are alerted to the post and can investigate and delete it. If you reply to a post made by a spam bot, it can alert the spam bot that you have responded, and it will automatically start sending more spam. So DO NOT reply to a spammer.
Rule 17: It is illegal to record and rebroadcast Air Traffic Control radio broadcasts in New Zealand. Do not post any videos or audio from Air Traffic Control recorded in New Zealand here on the forum. For more, see here:

If the moderation team deems any posts are in breech of the above rules, or if they find anything else that is outside the bounds of decency and common taste, posts or portions of them will be removed, and action may be taken against those who made the post/s.
