While a terrible waste of money it dosent mention that these aircraft were old Italian cast offs.

Any other operator of these aircraft would have the same spare parts issue as the Afghans, been one of the very few remaining operators of the type. The G222 hasn't been in production for sometime and has been replaced by the C27J which is quite a different aircraft. One wonders why the US didn't take this into account when purchasing these for the Afghans.
