Common? Tall tail.
It was found that during a go around the corsairs already large rudder was incapable of countering the massive amounts of torque produced by the new engine. So the vertical tail surface was heightened by 12” to accommodate an auxiliary rudder that only deflected when the flaps were lowered.

Mustang Mikes tall tail Mustang H. Steve Coutches; I always say, you drive the P-51 D, but you can fly a P-51 H. It weighs 1600 pounds less & you can take off with a full fuel load in 800-900 feet.
Tall tail... The vertical gained about 14 inches and about 2-3 feet of vertical surface area. The extra height/surface is helpful in certain flight regimes where the canopy can blank out most of the verticals effectiveness.
