The ex-NAC, ex-Air New Zealand Friendship that had been at Wigram for several years has now moved to Ashburton. See the report here, from New Zealand Aviation News for July 2005...

What happened to the original RNZAF F-27 Friendships when they were retired? Did any of them stay in NZ?

As I recall the RNZAF Friendships were all exported to Malaysia. I think the airline was Merpati Nausantara (or something similar) which was a regional subsidary of Malaysian Airlines. As I understand they have since been withdrawn and broken up.

I never knew they'd been broken up. What a shame one wasn't given back to the RNZAF for the museum. Pity. They were excellent aircraft, I worked in the same hangar as they were maintained in and got to see a lot of them. I even flew one of them once which was way cool.
