Very expensive to relocate... has been used as static display walk-throughs by the looks of it. Complete aircraft less external fuel tanks.

The St Mawgan gate guardian. You would hope there is some kind of deal going on with the group that restored it. ksaviation.co.uk/WL795/

I can recall seeing Shackletons flying in and out of WP. I think it was around 1967/69? They were here for an exercise, I was at school doing what I did best gazing out the window looking for aircraft, as the school looked out over the Hauraki Gulf plus was near the approach for WP.. That youtube clip is great to see, hope they get her flying as it is apparently what they are aiming to do.

Shackletons appeared at Whenuapai for a few exercises, and checking my photos, I note 1970 (would have been late in the year), but I am sure they were here earlier.

It seems somewhat unusual for the MoD to be requesting 'Expressions of Interest' for an aircraft that has been a Gate Guardian for several years, especially as '...WL795 is a beautifully restored reminder of our countries heritage, at the same time acting as a visual memorial to the airmen who lost their lives over the seas keeping the country safe...'.
In the absence of an 'official announcement' from WL795's 'guardians (the Cornish Aviation Soc.), who BTW have not updated their website this year, does anyone know why this 'disposal' notification has been placed? Is it a 'legal necessity' to cover the fact that the machine ha been 'gifted' to the Corn. Av. Soc., or is it an actual 'we want it off the property asap' type notice?
The odd thing is that AFAIKS, there are absolutely no comments concerning this pending sale on any of the 'Shackleton-themed' on-line sites. Very strange indeed; perhaps they haven't seen the notice?
Additional info.' anyone?

Has quite a lot of corrosion apparently, no surprise being out in the weather for so long.
