In a 1990 NZ Wings magazine, the month of which I have forgotten exactly, I read recently a snippet about a NZ-based Isaac Fury (one of those ultralight 'scale replicas' of the Hawker Fury biplane) which apparently had travelled to the UK and become the first NZ Warbird to appear in a British film.
Anyone know what the film was? Any more details?

I know of only one Issacs fury to have gone from NZ to England and that would be Dougal Dallisons machine, I think the Rego was ZK-DMN. I worked on this machine when it returned from the UK. I was doing my aircraft engineering training at Ardmore between 1990 and 1993, and we reassembled the aircraft for dougal on his return. At the same time we added a lightweight electrical system with a Gell cell Battery and Kubota alternator, Hydraulic mainwheel brakes (Motorcycle type) and replaced the main undercarriage bungee cord suspension. All of these jobs caused numerous headaches as I recall it was one of those jobs where nothing went right, but nevertheless I liked the Isaacs fury as I fitted it nicely (I was too small to see much from the Hawker Sea Fury for example). I dont actaully recall it flying afterwards, I think Dougal collected it on a weekend and took it down to Taupo. I beleive it has subsequently crashed, but I Cant confirm that. As to what it was doing in the UK, film work sounds reasonable, although there are plenty of Isaac Furies there (and even a real one) it seems odd to use a kiwi one. I know Dougal had spent a bit of time arranging the PZL dealership and the importation of the first Wilgas into NZ. That is some info on the story, but the main guts still seems a bit thin.......
