Planespotter question - in 1996 the Hans Dittes Buchon was registered as ZK-CIX for the duration of its stay in NZ, but the Hanna Buchon G-BOML wasn't when it was here four years prior. Can anyone share why CIX came into existence, and why this didn't happen (unless I missed it) for the CAF Zero or the BoB Buchon?

The Fire Service (Air-Raid) Siren is going off in Wanaka at the moment.
I hope it isn't due to anything out at the airport.
Most likely a crash on one of the highways I presume.

The weather in Wanaka right now.... It was fine & sunny when I arrived here about 2pm but there was a thunderstorm over in the direction of Luggate about 2:45pm, although Wanaka town only received a bit of light rain from the edge of the storm. And I just heard the distinctive sound of the Corsair in the air. It wasn't at the airport when I called in there prior to arriving at Wanaka, so it must have just arrived from Hood Aerodrome. The P-40 from Hood was at Wanaka Airport earlier this afternoon though.

We managed to land at Queenstown at 11.20, then not long after the monsoon came through and the airport closed. Luck of the Irish!
The four RAAF Hawks are parked there, along with the Piper Comanche group.
Drove through to Wanaka, but pretty stormy all the way.

Sorry Dave, none of that was obvious from watching the two aircraft!

Re ZK-CIX. I was at WoW in 1996. Unless my memory after 20 years is failing me ZK-CIX was not a Buchon. I'm fairly sure that it was the genuine article, a Me109G fitted with the Daimler Benz engine. At a pub in Wanaka on the Saturday evening Jack Stafford introduced me to Mark Hanna, who was piloting the 109 at the airshow. Perhaps this was the same aircraft that Mark was flying when he crashed in Spain.

airshow. Perhaps this was the same aircraft that Mark was flying when he crashed in Spain. No Mark was flying a Buchon when he had his accident. And the 109G was a Buchon originally but did have G parts installed during the rebuild.
