Philippine Airlines to launch Manila to Auckland serviceJOHN ANTHONY Last updated 17:39, May 20 2015 ROMEO RANOCO Philippine Airlines will fly an Airbus A320 four times a week between Auckland and Manila.Philippine Airlines will start flying to Auckland from Manila in December promising to bring nearly 65,000 tourists a year to New Zealand. It will be the first time the airline has operated to New Zealand. Philippine Airlines will operate four days a week using an Airbus A320 with a stopover in Cairns, Australia. Auckland International Airport aeronautical commercial general manager Norris Carter said the addition of Philippine Airlines was good news for the New Zealand tourism industry and the economy. The service would provide 64,500 seats a year between Manila and Auckland contributing an estimated $41 million a year to the economy. "We have experienced solid growth from the Philippines market in recent years and the addition of a new carrier will certainly help to further stimulate this," Carter said. Short-term arrivals from the Philippines increased 9.4 per cent a year over the past five years, he said. The stopover in Cairns would also provide travellers with another option. Air New Zealand is the only airline currently flying direct between Cairns and Auckland using an A320 three times a week. Philippine Airlines' president Jaime Bautista said with nearly 40,000 Filipinos living in New Zealand, the new service offered a convenient link to their home country. www.stuff.co.nz/business/industries/68717423/philippine-airlines-to-launch-manila-to-auckland-service

Hopefully they might consider Cairns to Wellington.
Using an A320 is an interesting idea.

On the plus side......more mail order brides will be available... :-) just don't teach them too much English, or how to drive. (I'm joking!......)
Why teach them to drive! :-). ( yes where I'm going..it's gonna be hot!)

When we were heading back from the Philippines to NZ there were no direct flights.
We had to fly Cebu - Manila - Singapore, and then directly Singapore - Auckland.
Seven hours after we had left Cebu, I said to Meredith "If you look out of the window, straight down, you can see where we started from this morning!"

To my mind there could be a lot of things worst that an A320 with Filipina flight attendants..
SIN - AKL via overhead Cebu - must have been lost.
Most Filppinos can speak English better than a sampling in NZ these days.
