I discovered a couple of rather interesting photographs of the US Navy's Blue Angels team above San Francisco in 1950 amongst a gallery of aerial images taken above the city by photographers from the San Francisco Chronicle newspaper. The gallery was published on the Chronicle's SFGate.com website on Monday. Click on each photograph in turn to open the source pages at SFGate.... What is particularly interesting is that if you click back to Image 2 in the photograph gallery, you'll see an aerial picture (taken from an airship) showing the ruins of downtown San Francisco following the 1906 earthquake and fire, and the comparison to downtown Christchurch following the demolition of a large part of the city is eerily similar.
