Amazing, one guy walked away afterwards. Perhaps the pilot killed was just unlucky and was hit by something.

Looks like a tail rotor failure during the pitch up just after the flares were released. It starts turning to the right and then changes to the left and continues to spin left during the descent. The tail rotor blades are turning but look funny during the descent.

There appears to be a brief trail of smoke from the doomed aircraft as it rapidly slows down in its climb, before reversing direction - I guess a symptom of the failure of the tail rotor drive. David D

Or the main rotor struck the tail rotor on the pullup

I heard yesterday that it has been put down to hydraulic failure ( Im not sure if that is totally factual , as it probably came off the " net " , but looks possible ) .

From what I can see, and without recourse to engineering drawings, the main rotor disc appears not to impinge on the tail rotor by a good margin. David D
