Did you see the excellent report on TV3 news tonight on the attempt being made by paramotorists (also known as parapenters I believe) to fly from North Cape to Bluff in 16 days.
These guys basically have nothing more than a parasail type fabric wing above them, and a motor and prop ( like a fan) strapped to their backs. So this attempt is massive. They're dependent of the ind for a start. One pilot stated on one of the days they had a headwind and with the motor at full throttle they were sitting still!
The report also said there are currently only 16 paramotor pilots in NZ, and they're attempting the long distance flight to raise awareness and get more people into the sport/hobby.
The footage was stunning, seeing these guys above Ruapehu, etc. I hope they achieve their goals.
