Last December (2009) I flew my aeroplane down to west of Milford and filmed all of the area that I believe ZK-HNW disappeared in.
After returning home and going over the footage, I was 99.9% sure I had found it.
I have posted four pages on the website, with photos, explaining why I thought I'd found it, and the results shown by way of photos taken by the helicopter crew that went in to check it out.
These pages can be found by clicking on the button "ZK-HNW"

Hullo Gavin
Hope you are well, I sent a few messages a while ago as I was hoping to come to NZ and have a search however I had to head back to the U.K for work (as always Sad ) and as such, am confined to the updates and Google Earth. I'll get there one day Very Happy
Anyway I was reading your update on this helicopter and decided to have a little look on Google Earth around the area marked and came across an oddity, you have probably already seen it but I thought you might like a look all the same. The measurements seem a little large but it looks to be at the base of a sheer rock face and it looks a bit out of place.
Probably nothing but you never know, here's the co-ordinates:
44°48'59.39"S 167°44'48.63"E
Cheers

Hi Dave,
If you click on this link, it will show you a section of a high definition photo of the exact area that you have shown me on Google Earth:
postimage.org/image/22xmrfqo4/
I've cropped it down off the original that I have (388 Mb's!) and you will see that what is shown on GE would have been moraine. In fact, you can still see a small piece of moraine in that spot.(in the middle of the photo)
Moraine seems to melt down to all kinds of weird shapes - depending on the surrounding ground, etc.
Many thanks for taking the time to check it out on GE. You never know what you might find!
Regards,
Gavin

Dave,
I've never used this program before to send photos with (http://postimage.org) and after looking at the link I sent you in the last post, it is not very big.
I've tried other settings in the program to see if it will send it in a larger file but unfortunately it doesn't.
If you save the file to your computer (right click on it), you may be able to open it with a photo editor and zoom in on it more, but I don't know how much detail you will see as it may be in a very low resolution format.
If you want to see it much larger, then feel free to email me the normal way and I'll send it to you via that way.
Regards,
Gavin

Hi Gavin
That image is no problem and it's very high def. I see what you mean now, there is far greater clarity in that picture than on google earth.
I admit to being a bit of an armchair explorer on google earth when I'm not out and about so if you need an extra pair of eyes in an area let me know and I'll happily scour away for hours.
It's interesting what you come across in the most unexpected of places sometimes!
