I believe that Bevan Dewes was there and witnessed the event. Certainly a terrible scene that shall no doubt stay with him forever.

I noticed the pilot had started the loop very low - below the top of a close by hill, so it was always going to be marginal unless he pursued the vertical climb for a bit, but then that is dependent on the initial level airspeed to gain altitude. So many factors, so sad. Pilot I believe is still listed as critical. From conversations elsewhere the manoeuvre is being described more as a clover-leaf than a loop - the entry and exit directions are certainly different on the videos. Relatively high air temperature and humidity affecting control response/manouverability is also being seriously discussed elsewhere, but we should be wary of speculation I think. When the AAIB report comes out there will hopefully be definitive answers as to what went wrong.

How he got out of that I will never know. The forward fuselage and cockpit separated on impact. I've seen an after the event image of what can be identified as the centre fuselage section from about the intakes back, minus wings, sitting on the ground.

Is it the camera angle or me? The Hunter seemed to roll as it passed through the vertical on the way up. Too late for a barrel roll and too early for a half loop and roll off the top. Do air show participants have to lodge a copy of their routine with the organisers?

A very informative report.
I watched some of the videos of the event. I can't imagine what it was like to be there. The pilot is still in hospital, from memory still "serious".

As he should be, 100% pilot fault. That single accident has pretty much destroyed the jet scene in the UK.

And if it is proven to be pilot error then that should negate any and all bans on jet / vintage aircraft displays. If you were to use a similar arguement then commercial air travel, ferries and the humble motor car should all be stopped and they are as prone to human error as much or if not more so. Some sensible and simple changes to display routines could mitigate (but not entirely) the risks to spectators. So many human behaviours have a huge element of risk attached to them such as drinking or smoking, but we allow this even though it causes harm. Some common sense must prevail. However this certainly does not ameliorate the grief and loss of the families and friends killed in this tragedy.
