Have just spent a frustrating few hours attempting to machine new heads to accept a second set of spark plugs, for a friend's a/c.
Did the right thing and set up an old cracked head in the mill to check position and depth, then machined new head on same settings only to discover it is about 4mm thinner than genuine VW in the combustion chamber wall.
Previous heads had sleeves with flanges screwed in but one had failed, so not happy to go down that route.
Anyone found a brand or supplier of heads manufactured to original specs? Alternatively has anyone bought Great Plains heads and seen how they do it?
