After the awful events and the desperately sad loss of 11 people at Shoreham last weekend, it was with some apprehension that airshows in the UK were set to take place this weekend. My thoughts were with the families of those affected yesterday and may those lost, rest in peace. The CAA have implemented some, restrictions on vintage jets over land at airshows and currently all Hunters are grounded until further notice. These restrictions may be temporary but we will know more on that in the coming months. Hopefully, the thorough investigation that is being carried out, will bring out all the facts and the quite ridiculous and disgusting press coverage will have been shown up for what it is.
So, to Rhyl airshow, my local show just a few miles from home on the beautiful North Wales Coast. It's a small show with just a dozen or so acts on but this year's headline act was without a shadow of a doubt, XH558, the last airworthy Vulcan. It is to be retired in October (date tbc...diary clear for a couple of weekends!!!) My pictures will follow soon but just to whet your appetite, here is a video shot by someone else at the show that, hopefully, shows what we all had yesterday. Enjoy.
