Well did not make it to Duxford but am in the Uk for the Old Sarum show. Beautiful WW.I field with lots of that history remaining. Even has the old gun butts for the aircraft machine guns plus five of the original hangars. Used in WW.II and a beautiful surround of rolling hills. Iron Age hill fort then used by the Romans about a mile away. Roman roads surround the field....Magnificent setting and I am looking forward to commentating on the Vulcan and Sea Vixen. Not seen a Vulcan since I was a kid

Should be a good show - the weather is CAVOK down the road in Somerset. Unfortunately I didn't know it was on otherwise I would have planned to go as I'm over here for a few weeks. Just spoken to the airfield manager to see if there was any chance I could fly in before the show starts but unfortunately no... Evidently there were 9,500 there yesterday (Saturday) It is certainly a spectacular location - while you are in the area check out the Fovant Badges... en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fovant_BadgesZeals - where there was a NZ Mosquito squadron is close as is Alfred's Tower. en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/King_Alfred%27s_TowerGood place for lunch or cuppa is the restaurant at Compton Abbas where you can sit outside and watch a fairly active airfield. www.comptonabbasairfield.co.uk

And many reports of the commentary giving good airtime to the Vulcan display and others without over-riding vocals on the PA system!! Well done sir!

Back from the Old Dart......... really enjoyed Old Sarum. Airfield is in a perfect location and there are great plans to undertake a residential development that is sympathetic to the WW.I buildings and heritage. That development is opposed - as most are - however it shall have the effect of getting some money into the preservation of the hangars etc. The show shall be on again next year and all the lessons of the first "go" are being put into practice. How three major caterers who were booked just decided not to turn up and not even contact the organisers is just beyone belief. If it happened down here there would be a lynch mob out. All that is to change however with new areas for the food planned, more trade displays and rearrangement of the flight line, etc. The airfield lends itself to a whole range of prospects and it is close enough to the crowd line for the B.17 to look mammoth ! We sat down on the Wednesday after the show and started planning for the display programme for next year and the nucleus of those displays shall form the theme for the show. If it all comes off it will be great.

The big sheet on the wall in Trevor's study in the UK is full and the cost of the flying programme is mammoth for the next OS. Believe it or not requests have already gone in for the CAA premissions and also for RAF/RN /Army participation. Now just to get the date as Duxford have moved their show forward to that weekend and he dosen't want a clash.
