I was asked to look through an old box and it held a few surprises and a large number of photos of Arthur Parrish. Arthur Parrish served with the Auckland Mounted Rifles. and went to serve in Palestine and Gallipoli for a time. In 1917 he applied to join the RFC and underwent flying training By Mid 1918 he had been posted to England on 23TS (? Training Squadron) but was too late to serve on the Western Front. He later served as a Home Guard company commander in WWII He remained a member of the WWI Airmens Association for the rest of his life. It is a surprise to see how many remained in the 1970's. WWI isn't my story point so any comments are welcome.

Peter,
"By Mid 1918 he had been posted to England on 23TS (? Training Squadron) but was too late to serve on the Western Front."
23 Training Squadron is correct, but it was in Egypt at Aboukir, not England.
Parish's operational flying was with 113 Squadron operating from Palestine in the latter part of 1917.
He didn't get to England until sometime after 18 Nov 1918.

Just saw this entry, which is very interesting to me as Arthur Parrish was my grandfather, and when we were children he told us stories about his service in WW1. He was also at Gallipoli.

Hello Colin, a very appropriate day to look through your Grand fathers memories. It is a very special collection and a great addition to the history of WW1 NZ airmen.
