This 2015-2016 season The Vintage Aviator will be hosting ‘Flying Weekends’ at Hood Aerodrome in Masterson. It will take place the last Saturday and Sunday of every month from November to April.
This particular one is Saturday 27th and Sunday 28th of February 2016.
The flying weekends are casual so make sure to bring your own seat and refreshments. Tickets are sold $20 for adults and $10 for children. Flying will be scheduled from 10.00am – 12.00pm and 2.00pm to 4.00pm Saturday and Sunday, with a Saturday only option of 6.00pm – 8.00pm if flying that day has been held up with weather. Hangar tours will also be offered outside of flying hours. The guided tours will be $15 for adults and $10 for children.

Get plenty of photos and post them, please Errol. Will do - the B.E.12 is on show too (and is registered, unlike the LVG)

Ooof. Gorgeous machines both! So were there four BE types on the field/visible? On Saturday, only the BE12 was outside but the BE2's were side by side down the hangar (the BE12 had been at the door end), so within a few steps, you could do the comparisons looking at each machine on the same angle. With little flying done, the lunch break was much longer, so us keen enthusiasts were able to have a couple of close looks at the LVG and others were able to get shots with no folk around. For Zac, the background to these shots, the Super Air fleet is now two Crescos, LTP is now at Masterton. As usual, the TVAL staff and the pilots were often seen talking to visitors and answering questions.

Yes, the B.E.2f was flying, the B.E.2c's were in the hangar. At one point I was standing in the hangar entrance, comparing the empennage bracing arrangements of the B.E.2c's and B.E.12 (the early B.E.2c differs from the later versions).

Is that a light on the wing in the close up? Or a period-looking Go-Pro pod?

Is that a light on the wing in the close up? Or a period-looking Go-Pro pod? Yes, navigation lights Dave. It still needs a gun I think. They had them mounted on the wing (SE5A style) but I've yet to see a picture. The BE12 is fantastic looking machine. Am looking forward to seeing it against an RE8.

Yes, the drawings I found online while trying to get the history of that particular machine had a SE5A style Lewis, and often anti-Zeppelin rockets on the outer struts. It was on 50 Sqn Home Defence.
