We're less than a week out from this event so I thought it might be a good idea to find out who from the forum is planning on going. Unlike last time I'm driving there and back on Sunday (I've booked Monday off work to recover) rather than staying with someone in town. As it's a pay week so I'm hoping to help out the Warbirds team by relieving them of some merchandise! Who else is going?

I've got a guess for the special, but don't want to jinx it by saying it out loud!

The weather is not looking too promising for Sunday - bother! I don't get many chances to get to Ardmore and this one was planned long ago.

That's disappointing - that said, weather at the last one started out miserable but fined up enough for everything to fly that was able/meant to. I'm optimistic! I've got a guess for the special, but don't want to jinx it by saying it out loud! Does it rhyme with "dodified Shmojan"?

The forecast has improved - the cold front is moving through a day earlier - so Saturday will be wet but Sunday should be 15kt sou-west to westerly, cool and fine - yes, that'll do!

Excellent! I've stocked up on energy drinks for my commute and have a little pocket money for souvenirs lined up. I'll be in my black Oshkosh KA114 shirt and an Aerowork cap so I should be easy-ish to spot.

I see someone had an exciting day today... Plane makes safe landing after emergency at Ardmore Airport A small plane has made a safe landing at Auckland's Ardmore Airport after declaring an emergency situation. The New Zealand Fire Service said the plane had been circling the airport because it couldn't confirm its landing gear was working. There were two people on the aircraft. Northern communications shift manager Dallas Ramsay said three fire trucks and a tanker were in position while the plane attempted an emergency landing at 2.15pm. She confirmed the plane landed safely and nobody was injured. It had been in a "holding pattern" and circling the airport for at least 20 minutes, after notifying the emergency at 1.45pm on Sunday, she said. www.stuff.co.nz/auckland/74283538/plane-makes-safe-landing-after-emergency-at-ardmore-airport

I didn't realise anything was wrong with the Piper twin until just before it landed - someone asked if the Fire Service team was doing a demo as they had suited up and moved appliance to the runway, then I saw it land with the visible engine shutdown!
As Errol said almost everything flew, as with last time there was rain and cloud at first but it fined up...that wind though. The Strikemaster guys did will, and I thought the RV team was brave! A very pleasant day out and good to catch up with some folks.
Surprise slot of the day: Doug Brooker's new aerobatic machine. Very pretty and a cool routine I'd not seen before.
