I guess this huge storm that has hit the country will likely have forced a cancellation to the warbirds Battle of Britain Flypasts that were planned for Auckland (from Ardmore), Wellington (Brendon's Spitfire)and Marlborough (from Omaka)? It's pretty rough out there around here with heavy rain, hail and thunder.

Marlbrough's fly past went ahead as planed , however it was really windy which pretty much forced the cancellation of the " Flying Day " that was planned at Omaka .There was still some flying however , and they ran the MK14 to keep those that did turn up entertained .

Thanks Grant. I see on Facebook that Ardmore had much better weather too, and it looks like their flypast went ahead. Brendon had to cancel the Wellington Spitfire flight though.

Beautiful morning here in Auckland, but just as the flypast was due, a band of rain came across from the West and sat over MoTaT for the next hour or so. The flypast went ahead but not great for the large crowd waiting to see the planes. Thanks to Warbirds for persisting in what must have been marginal conditions. A couple of very damp photos: Cheers, Chris

It was somewhat wetter just a little to the West (nice placement Chris), under the Sunderland! Richard and I were being hit by the hail standing under the wing, and had to crouch under the hull. It was slightly better for the flypast, this gives the flavour! Flypast Harvards through Sunderland scaffold by Errol Cavit, on Flickr

Well done Errol, pretty good placement yourself!
The rain was a shame, although I have to admit, it was a beautiful sight as the Spitfire and Mustang banked away into the murky grey ...

Thanks for the photos chaps. It's great to see it went ahead despite the weather.

PV270 stayed home all weekend, Brendon was kind enough to post the cancellations on Facebook. It seems the Wanganui Aero Club open day still went ahead but I doubt the Venom took part.

That MOTAT board has one of our two Cambridge Battle of Britain pilots listed, Edward Preston "Bill" Wells, known as Hawkeye, but for some reason it has omitted our other, Edward Walter Gillies Churches. www.cambridgeairforce.org.nz/Edward_Churches.htmlI wonder if others are missing too?
