Hi all, Around 3am our time the last airworthy Avro/Hawker-Siddeley Vulcan flew a final flight and was grounded. They livestreamed it on YouTube but I read over at the Key Forum there were some connection issues. They gave something like 30min advance warning on social media, apparently to avoid traffic congestion around the active commercial airport where she's based. So there we have it. A truly tremendous restoration story has come to an end. I, for one, am glad we live in the age of digital media so that we have photos and video to remember her by. Bravo to all involved...and now we wait to see what their next project is...

HP Victor, has flown illegally... LOL! Lovely girl, very resplendent in fresh paint and all engines, and APU all run... be great to see her fly again too! Bigger and faster than the older Vulcan. Perhaps the next is the AVRO Shackleton at Coventry, again all Griffons are running etc.
I was so glad to be able to get to UK this season and see XH558 fly for about 20mins at RIAT, fabulous!

I would put my money on the Shackleton, too. That will be a great project to follow (as I have been for a year or two). I really do envy those of you who got to see a Vulcan fly - apart from YouTube, the closest I've got is Dad's memories of standing under one at Ohakea as a kid.

I have seen the Vulcan three times in NZ skies two from a distance but one was directly overhead, Standard 3 or 4 Avonhead primary school, still recall the silly remark the teacher said but then It still was a site to see.

I was lucky enough to see the Vulcan at the Jersey Airshow in 2010 when it did its full routine; absolutely unforgettable! To see and hear that bird come in over St Aubins Bay and then go vertical under full power had to be experienced to be believed - the power that those engines have is astonishing; you could actually feel that power on the ground a thousand yards away as well as hear the deepest roar I have ever heard in my life!!
Has there ever been a more beautiful aircraft take to the air as a weapon of war?!
Simply outrageous and sorry to it grounded!!

Very sad that it is all over but was always going to happen one day with a complex aircraft like the Vulcan. Here are a few photos from a 30 minute photo flight in September, have some really nice ones that I will post in the coming months to hopefully keep the smiles on the faces. Going so far for a photo flight still makes me think I must be a bit mad some times as all sorts of things could have stopped the flight but am glad I made the effort as 30 minutes with this magnificent aeroplane was impressive, was expecting 5-10 minutes!

Absolutely beautiful shots, Gavin. I love them all but my favourite has to be #3. #4 is a great tribute.

Can't remember which part of England it was, but when I was there in 1977, I watched 6 or 8 Vulcans low flying around a hilly area for about half an hour, and they were really throwing them about. I would agree with Zac, #3 and #4 classic shots, although any are great. isc
