Here are some photos I took back in the early 1990's (about 1992-93) during various visits to Wigram's No. 7 Hangar. I only recently refound them and thought you may like a look. Isn't it a beautiful thing? Before the wings went on Wings on

Did anyone note the Corsair in previous shots? I don't know why it was in the workshop, it was normally in Hangar 6. I wonder if it was having it's -5N gear reinstalled after the aborted attempt to backdate it. here's the Hudson's engine

The Corsair came from Walt Disney ,some kind of payment for the use of RNZAF aircraft in the Rescue movie I think. The Corsiar now in OZ I believe. Great pix of the Hudson!

You are right, I cant remember the name of the movie at the moment but no doubt someone will. The Corsair is progressing very well and it will be good to see it in the air

Yes, that's correct, the film was the dire kid's flick The Rescue. RNZAF A-4's and a Safe Air Bristol Freighter were used. The Corsair was gifted to the museum in 1988 I believe, and they initially began backdating it to become an F4U-1A or -1D model, but work stopped and it was reverted to its original condition before swapped to Australia for the P-40F wreckage, which is now a P-40E. It's a pity the museum no longer has a Corsair, but the P-40E is an important addition to the museum.
I used to always find visits to 7 Hangar (depicted above) very fascinating. The staff and volunteers were always willing to chat about their old aircraft and the work they were doing. That was the days before the public got to see restoration, so living on base and having access I was quite privileged I guess. I only wish I'd taken the camera more often.
