We took a nostalgic excursion down to Whakatane over the weekend on ZK-AWP. Air Chatham's are doing a good job with the DC-3, canvassing local food, local drinks (feijoa Wines & MAta Beer) and local chocolates served in style by hostesses wearing classic 1950 style attire. The flights are being offered every weekend over summer, going down on the Saturday Afternoon & coming back Sunday lunchtime. Very good value for only $132 ea. On the ramp at Whakatane As part of the service, A complimentary photo is taken of every flight by Chatham's staff local baking Local wines White Island Skyliner framed view at 7000ft On approach interestng taildragger view at Mangere On the gate

yeah... I've been waiting to take one of these flights when the time permits, and take the fandamily over to visit the in-laws at Ohope...a great service that actually fits in surprisingly well with the other traffic at NZAA... they only appear to get the odd hold or vectors out of the way.

It's interesting to see that Air Chathams are changing the schedule times for their weekend DC-3 flights between Auckland and Whakatane next summer. Departure from Auckland on Saturdays is changing to the earlier time of 9:30am. Departure from Whakatane on Sundays is changing to the later time of 4:45pm. This will give time to do the White Island cruise during the weekend. More info HERE on Air Chathams' website.
