Got myself an Ultra Micro Mustang as with all of my UM Warbirds I’m going to give her a repaint, open the cockpit and add a bit of scale detail, span is 410mm close to 1/32nd scale. First off strip the decals for repaint. Cutting the canopy, they are very thin so a new exacto go slow, the glue holding the canopy came off easy. Added a radio and the 1/32nd scale pilot I am using has flown a Kittyhawk, Corsair, Spitfire and now checking out on the mighty Cadillac of the Skies! Found this okay pic of the only Mustang to wear camouflage in Australia So a fair way through slapping on the camo. Top view. Finished off my Aussie P51, have modelled her on the only Mustang to wear camo in Australia, also the first P51 to be assembled in Australia by the Commonwealth Aircraft Corporation. There are many ways to weather, the method I find most successful is pastels, I rub them onto sand paper then brush them on, use a fine brush for the panel lines and broader brush over the fuselage. Didn’t want to over weather this one, a good rule less is best, one of the best things about pastels, with a damp cloth you can wash it off and start again. Have opened the cockpit on all my UM Warbirds so Pete the pilot can have a go, he’s flown a Kittyhawk, Corsair, Spitfire and now the mighty Mustang! Also added a bit of scale including radio equipment and a seat. Here she is with a picture of the real thing. Trying to replicate the below picture. Will try and get my photographer mate to get some pic's of her in the air in the near future.
