Come on guys - let's hire a boat and nip across to New Britain and pick NZ4522 up? I'm sure if we offered a few of the locals a few hundred dollars they'd let us take her away - hell, they'd probably even help us load it on the boat! ;D This old girl deserves to be treated better than being left to rot in the jungle.

Would make an awesome Warbird restoration thats for sure. While we're on the topic of Lockheed twins, I heard that apparently a Hudson is about to undergo restoration at Avspecs, Ardmore. Going to be a busy place with a few Spitfires, P40's and the Mosquito already underway in there. Another hangar perhaps?

I hope its true, at this point they have stuff in Rob Mackleys hangar and Greg Ryans old hangar, Greg Ryan has moved into the old Tecnam hangar and the Tecnam guys have moved into their new hangar.

Where is this Hudson coming from? There is a very, very limited number available, most being static in museums. I know Motat's is on the list for another (!!) restoration, but surely they won't be paying professionals to do it (I wish).
It won't be Wigram's one, probably not Ferrymeads and I'd doubt John Smith's, so where is the Hudson coming from? Is it to come in from offshore? Australia? Or a 'newly found'airframe like recent P-40 restorations?
I'm aware of moves for possibly another WWII twin to maybe join that restoration line too if all goes well, so hopefully more room needed.

Could it be a case of crossed wires and the Lockheed Twin is Rob Mackleys Electra?

No, not the Electra, that is being restored at Pioneer. I shall investigate tonight at the airfield bar and confirm the rumour...

After much 'investigating'; for 'Lockheed Hudson' read 'Bristol Beaufighter', although it's not yet 100% confirmed. A second Mosquito project may also be inbound.

Yes, that's the twin I'd heard of from a good source. And the Mossie projects will roll in I'm sure now from around the world.

Wait and see I guess. No deal has been done as far as I've been told so even discussing it here could be prejudice to such a deal.

It's not official yet, and Dave is correct.

By the way, Ventura NZ4522 was well picked over by a team from Motat in 1972 to assist in the restoration of NZ4601. I have a good article about it from the Oct 1972 NZ Wings. The team also found the remains of a Junkers Ju37 whilst there!
