Headline writers lie? We knew that already. The concern isn't the route taken, but that the pilot was surprised by it! Good that he checked an apparent oddity however, and the underlying issue may be with comms to the flight crewm rather than the crew themselves.

So we have the media, both the Herald and now Stuff, trying to make a story out of something as simple as an amended flight plan.
It is about time the media were held to account for some of their reporting, which in my opinion struggles to get a pass mark on any matter. At least this story is based on some fact and not perhaps a total fabrication. It would not be enough to have me watching TV news or buying a paper again though.

I always flew Malaysia airline, hooked on a Singapore flight a few times, air traffic control to city traffic control Ooops ! .. One trip heading into Brunei I stopped at the border in the city of Miri the day before the new year 2000, eleven stories up and looking down on this intersection, five roads intersect join, traffic backing up on all lanes .. cars and they a lot run on scooters ... problem fixed - smack on 8.00AM , they switch off the traffic lights, organized Chaos .. that is how you handle a problem.
