A wee bit of New Zealand's Army history will disappear on the weekend of 16/17 of April 16, with the laying up of New Zealand Scottish Regimental Colours at the Early Settlers Museum in Dunedin.
The New Zealand Scottish Regt was raised on the outbreak WW2 with 1st NZ Scots Battalion in 1939 then followed by 2nd NZ Scots Battalion in 1940. 1 NZ Scots was one of only Two TF Battalions to be deployed overseas during WW2 with 3NZ Div, but was disbanded sometime latter in New Caledonia due manpower issues with number of ex Scots members transferring over the RNZAF, 2 NZ Div or back to NZ. 2 Scots will disbanded later on back NZ. The Regt was reformed in 1948 as 1st Armoured Car Regt RNZAC (New Zealand Scottish)with 4 Sqns and a HQ Regt Sqn and by 1963 it was down to 2 Recon Sqns using cut down Landover's (SAS/ LRDG style) and in 1963 it was present it was awarded it's Regimental Colours. It's Battle honours came from the 2nd Div Cav on a Standard not a Guidon as you would in Armoured/ Cav Regt as stated above it started out as Infantry Regt hence green standard with the Black Watch, Scot Greys, and 2nd Div Cav in signature in each of the corners of the Regimental Colour. Sometime in the 70's it became a APC Regt, then later on 1 NZ Scots became the APC SQN and 2 NZ Scots became a Recon/ Anti Armour SQN until about the late 80's or very early 90's. The Regt was rename New Zealand Scottish Sqn (Recon and back to cut down Landover's again) with troops based in Christchurch (The old KEB Barrack's) and the Army Hall in Dunedin and from there the unit was run into ground by defence cut backs etc. Sometime in late 98 or early 99 the SQN lost its Black Hat and change back to a Green Hat and renamed as New Zealand Scottish Coy as a part of 40South Battalion. Please note I had left the Scots SQN by then back in mid 98 as I went chasing my dream job overseas as I saw no future in the NZDF by this stage. Please feel free to add any more history of this very unique unit.
If anyone knows any Ex NZ Scot members please this on and I've two emails, one from the Canterbury Branch of the RNZAC Assc they are having a meeting this Thursday night at the Papanui RSA and the other Email is from New Zealand Scottish Regiment Ex-Members Association Inc

Greetings and Happy New Year.
You may know already that the NZ Scottish Regiment Colours are to be laid up in Toitu Otago Settlers Museum on the afternoon of Saturday 16th April.
In the evening NZ Scottish Ex-members Association will host a casual dinner and social at a venue yet to be decided.
Few details of the event are known as yet. A guard of 100 with the Colour
party and VIPs will arrive in the morning and fly out following the ceremony. The logistics of the parade and ceremony, including handing back the Regiment’s charter for the freedom of the City of Dunedin, are still being worked on.
All NZ Scots ex-members and partners are invited to attend.
