I have just got a copy of the March 1977 NZ Wings.
In it is an article and photos of a PBY-5A Catalina, N68740, visiting NZ at the time. It was on a world tour and flown by two electronics billionaires from the USA, Messers Otterson and Farinon.
It says the aircraft visited Queenstown, Christchurch and at the time of press was in Auckland.
Did anyone here see this aircraft when it visited? Have you any photos?
I always assumed ZK-PBY was the first to fly in NZ since the RNZAF retired their fleet in the 1950's. Shows I was wrong.

So N68740 is now static with Lone Star Flight Museum, and the ex-CAF one is now ex-scrap with Mark.
It makes you wonder how millionaires and CAF people can let two airworthy Catalinas become flightless. Sad.

Nice shot. That's better than the two in the magazine.
That'd be the life, eh?

There's a photo of the Australian Wings of the Confederate Air Force's Catalina N68758 on page 9 of the November 1981 New Zealand Wings magazine. As Marcus said above it was passing through from the USA to Australia.
It is in full RAAF colours with an additional sponsorship marking on the hull. It was pictured in Auckland (Mangere? Ardmore? it's sitting on a taxiway)
