I was wondering, has work on the Mosquito at AvSpecs ceased for a while, whilst the team there concentrate on the Spitfire Mk V that is scheduled to fly in three months time?
I note there have been no progress updates on the website for the Mossie since August.
Stu? Anyone?

the Waikato Thames Valley SAA chapter visited at the end of October. there was at that stage only one person allocated to the mossie full time, as the Spitfire V in particular was getting priority at that stage. Significant work on the mossie was still underway at Mosquito restorations workshop at drury however, so progress is still being made. as can be seen here, the fuselage was on its side during our visit (the jig rotages 360 deg) with various little fittings being installed in the bomb bay / wing root area. At Drury both wing spars have been completed - a serious undertaking in themselves. The aft spar will shortly be installed in the custom built jig to begin wing assembly. Mike Tunnicliffe, one of the MAR builders and a member of our chapter, explains the complexity of a mossie aft spar - although the techniques are very conventional on mosquito construction, the scale is mindblowing! the original wing is still largely intact (but in very poor condition) for use as 3D plans and to build jigs / test alignments etc. MAR are also carrying out a significant amount of component overhaul at Drury - here is the Pilots instrument Panel and seat that have recently been completed. All said, a serious project and not likely to be completed for a few years, but it will be well worth waiting for. The quality of workmanship is superb, probably better than wartime DH, and modern glues should mean that this aircraft will be flyable for some time into the future. We will be following progress with great interest!

Just finished uploading the October updates for the Mossie, Spitfire and Tomahawk to the Avspecs website ( www.warbirdrestoration.co.nz/current.html) a matter of minutes ago. Not sure when the November or December updates are due to arrive though. Cheers, Stu.
