Interesting stuff. Thanks Twilight.
Mike Nicholls owned and was restoring a P-40 at one stage from memory, and a Harvard. What's he up to nowadays (still RNZAF?) and what's the status of his collection?

What's he up to nowadays (still RNZAF?) and what's the status of his collection? I think Mike works for Safe Air at Blenheim. He left the RNZAF many years ago. He sold his substantially restored Harvard around the time he was posted to Woodbourne. The partially restored fuselage lived in AMS hangar at Ohakea while Mike worked there. It has been flying for several years - I don't know its registration though. Not sure about the status of his P-40 project - I have a feeling he may have sold it also.

It has been flying for several years - I don't know its registration though. He had NZ1052 which was restored as ZK-MJN (though it still flies as '52) and has been owned by a warbirds syndicate at Ardmore since 1991. The other Harvard he had was NZ1040 which was sold unrestored to the CAF at Dairy Flat for $3000. It sat there for some time without being worked on before going to Australia where it is now active as VH-XXH.
