I am writing a short article about this Lady. Miss Clarke won the Evelyn Follett Trophy in 1954 as she was Australia's first female Ag pilot. By 1957 a newspaper records that she moved to continue flying as an Ag pilot in New Zealand. Two additional articles indicate that she married to become Mrs WooDhouse or WooLhouse. And there the trail has gone cold. I know she was born in Queensland and she was born approximately 1925 (maybe). No facts or details about what she did in New Zealand, where based, who worked for, who married, where she died (or is she still alive) are available to me at this time. If anyone has any ideas that can assist me to locate Margaret or information about her flying Life, I would be very appreciative.

Dave! Thank you for that - 99% certain that her first name is Margaret so the Woolhouse option is very interesting. I have logged that info - thank you Katie.

Dave I have a copy of that e-book - I am aware of where that information was derived and the source is not accurate so I need to be careful before I quote that information. Looking for data/facts to support that. Already found another document that calls her Mrs Woodhouse and only one article so far regarding one Tiger crash. But thank you for confirming we are talking about the same lady regards, Katie

So Margaret 'Peggy' Woolhouse, born 10/2/1923, died on the 8th of May 2009. It appears she died in the Hawkes Bay,and her death notices appeared in these newspapers if you want to chase up a death notice and see if it's the right lady: The Dominion Post 09 May 2009 Hawkes Bay Today 09 May 2009 Napier Mail 13 May 2009 Have you any idea what her husband's name was? There's a Graham William 'Red' Woolhouse in the Napier cemetery, of a very similar age and died 2013. www.napier.govt.nz/services/napier-cemeteries/cemetery-database/cemetery?rid=208203

Dave - yes - i have a printout of that newspaper article - it is the only photograph i have of her. Still not sure if Marg P Woolhouse is the right lady but it is certainly a starting point. Have found another Margaret Clarke born in UK that left age 2 and went to Queensland - again - this might be the one, just not sure yet. Keeping all leads until something concrete comes up. Ancestry not too good yet as I have to have a positive birth date or something and i have stuff all right now. Still looking though. I have til 1st July to present the article, so a little time to breath. Thanks again. Katie.

You must have been looking where I was. I have never heard of her as an ag pilot in NZ,and I've probably read everything on ag flying ever written here.Maybe she did some aero club flying or just gave up flying completely when she came here?.

One of those 1954 articles where she was given the award suggests she'd only started topdressing four months before. Whether she lasted long at it is the other thing, she may have had too many scares and decided it was not for her.

Gentlemen - this is great! you have provided me with an excellent starting point - now i have her birth year of 1927 - thank you for your help - I am ecstatic - I must thank the AHSA (which i only joined recently) for suggesting you guys as a contact! My understanding from newspaper articles that I have retrieved is that she started ag flying in 1949 and reports are (from a couple of ladies who knew her but never kept in contact) they are 90% certain that she was working as an ag pilot in New Zealand in the late 1950s. So I must assume at this point that she did fly in New Zealand. Dave - your contacts/listings are correct (about the Hall of Fame, etc). I think this is why she is causing so much trouble to find. What I am worried about is she got married and stopped flying or worse, died from an aircraft accident - i literally do not know. But not giving up yet. Thank you again, both. Katie.

Would Australia have even had aerial topdressing in 1949? It was still a brand new thing here in NZ where it was being developed and I'd be very surprised if she was flying a topdresser right from the very beginning of the industry, as a very low houred, inexperienced pilot.

You might wish to consult the guys at the Airways Museum at Essendon as they have a MASSIVE archive on Aussie civil aviation activities, and may have some details on her. www.airwaysmuseum.com/

The Aussies actually beat us to start Aerial topdressing.I would say she topdressed around 1954/55.Aftr several crashes she may have opted for a safer career, especially if she got married.Last mention I can find of her is 1956 in Aussie. If she did come to NZ she definitely didnt do any topdressing here.
