The Old Stick and Rudder Company of Masterton have apparently bought a B-25 Mitchell and it will arrive here in NZ in mid-2007 www.oldstickandrudder.com/adventures.htmlWell done OS&RC. Will this be the first Mitchell to fly in NZ?

Wow, a B25! That will be a popular airshow star for sure. A shame they couldnt get a NZ related aircraft though, a Hudson or something would be awesome.

I'm certain it will be popular. I've seen footage of B-25's flying like fighters.
As only one Hudson and no Venturas are flyable, we'll probably never see the likes here again in our airspace. The RNZAF wanted to buy Mitchells and were fobbed off by the US with Venturas. So there is a tiny connection.
I am also looking forward to their Hind flying, it's a beautiful thing, that Hind. I wonder how far proressed it is now.

B25s appear in the British Airshows DVDs I got for Christmas - they certainly are great performers - should be good to see!

I had heard about this a while agaon and hadnt seen th thread, I hope it is able to carry passenger on flights as it sure would be neat sitting in the nose gunners position. It sure is one of the more unique aircraft to be seen here, cant wait to hear and see it

Having been lucky enough to have seen a number of different B25's in the UK over the years I can confirm that they are a wonderful beast. Hopefully it'll be flown in the energetic but safe manner of the Dutch example, 90 degree plus in the wing overs, tight turns the lot. I've seen that display a number of times and it's great, and for those of us that worry, it's never looked 'dodgy'. They sound great to!

Yes indeed the govt/RNZAF wanted the B25s but instead received the Ventura...Does anyone know more about this change...From my readings it was a supply problem and lend/lease arrangements etc...?

I understamd the US Navy took over the handling of Lend Lease to NZ from the USAAF. Therefore we got Naval types instead. That's why we got the Dauntless and Avenger too despite having no carriers.

Stunning, superb, excellent ... yada, yada. I love the B-25. As a child it was perhaps my second pick of aircraft (after the Lancaster - something about twin tails?) and I continue to think it is one of the best WWII aircraft you can get.
And it'll be in my backyard. Yeehah!
Dave - I notice an oblique reference to this on Old S&R Co website but that's all I can find on the web. It didn't seem to be confirmed per se, more of an "if everything comes to pass" sort of statement [my quotes there]. Where did you pick up the news? That same ref or somewhere else?
