I heard recently that AirVenture will have special events marking 100 years of Boeing, 25 years since the Gulf War, and a tribute to the Vietnam War vets, and also a day devoted to WWI aviation.
Sounds like it would be pretty amazing.

Are you aware that as part of their 100th anniversary celebrations, the Boeing company has paid for anybody to have free access to Aviation Week's archive until the end of this year without taking out a subscription? You have to register with them, but once you have done that, you can trawl back through all issues (it was originally a monthly magazine) with no restrictions until the end of December 2016. I registered back at the start of the year and it is an amazing archive once you start trawling through it. Go to HERE to register for your free subscription to their archive until the end of this year.

Thanks Bruce, I did not know that.

Given the Boeing anniversary it would be extra special for the B-29 Doc to make its debut there this year. The FAA's inspectors are crawling over Doc as I type, so my fingers are firmly crossed!
Anyone for a B-17, B-29 and B-52 formation flyby?

Anyone for a B-17, B-29 and B-52 formation flyby? It would be even better with a B-47 in the formation....

KTJ, I was actually privileged enough to see the last B.47 flown out of the desert to Castle Air Force base at Atwater in California when I was there doing the Ventura rebuild. Quite a sight indeed but the B.17, 29 and 52 should also be joined by the B.25

Did Boeing build B-25s under licence?

Boeing owns North American Aviation now apparently.

But despite NAA now being part of Boeing and the B.25 being built by NAA it would still be a damn fine formation ! One I guess never to be repeated.

There's some rather interesting photographs posted by Kermit Weeks yesterday to his FACEBOOK PAGE, taken during the flight of the Martin Mars flying-boat from Sproat Lake, Vancouver Island to Oshkosh, Wisconsin. Clicking through the photographs, I see comment from Kermit that he flew the takeoff from Sproat Lake, presumably under the supervision of the more experienced regular Mars pilots. One of the photographs taken during the flight shows Kermit at the controls in the right-hand seat with the left-hand seat empty. I love his comment about “this being a scary sight!” Lucky bugger!!

Auster AZF owner Andrew Vincent and a few hangar ons (Shane Glassey and Kev Botman who are both ex RNZAF and both currently working for ANZ) are swanning around the US and popping into to Oshkosh (you can almost feel the jealousy oozing off the page can't you). This is on the old bucket list for sure.

Yeah I have been following Shane's trip on Facebook. He's a forum member here of course, hopefully the other two are too. I also got a message from Matt Jolley of Warbird Radio this morning, he said there seems to be Kiwis everywhere at Oshkosh. He's been asking them all if they know me, and he found these two who said yes. Grant Finlay on the left, and Peter Ryan.

A post at WIX says P-40M NZ3119 is on the field and attracting a lot of attention. I can't wait to see pics! I have asked for some, and will ask my mate over there as well.

A sad casualty yesterday at Oshkosh but it looks like it could have been worse, especially if fire had taken hold as none of the occupants seem to be wearing fireproof flight suits.

That was hard to watch. On WIX someone mentioned Silver Dragon had only recently received a new engine. Onto brighter things! I snapped this from the live webcam just moments ago: NZ3119 in some fine company.
