The September 1977 edition of NZ Wings has a photo of Motat's replica Hurricane being unloded from the ship "NZ Aorangi" that it arrived aboard onto a truck. It's interesting to note it already wears Sir Keith Park's markings of O-K1. I wonder were these marking applied especially for Motat in the UK, or was it wearing that scheme with the previous owner?
Also of interest is it mentions in the caption how Motat came to get the Hurricane replica. It was apparently donated to the museum by the Archive College of New Zealand.
Does anyone know anything about that college? What was it all about? Did it have some connection to Sir Keith Park maybe?
The caption states 15 replicas were made for the film 'Battle of Britain'. This is one of only four that remained extant at that time. There are now two replicas in NZ that claim to have been made for the film, so that's interesting odds. The other is at Omaka.
Also the caption states there were only six real Hurricanes left in the world at that time. I'm not sure that's accurate. About double that number fly now, and there are loads in musuems.
