A detailed piece about the Ashburton Aviation Museum's Hawker Harier appeared on TV3's news earlier this evening. Little was mentioned at all about the fact it's the homebuilder's biggest gathering of the year, but oh well, as we all know, jet fighters are more interesting. The DC-3 ZK-DAK was also seen which was nice. The reporter stated the Harrier will become centrepiece to a new museum being built later in the year. Are we to take this as being a new building added to the long established existing museum? Or has there been a split? I have to admit tha Harrier looks fantastic and it was nice to see they had it out in the sunshine.

Pity it won't be flying Did look great for sure. Nice to see that the MOD didn't sell the Harrier to the highest bidder but one they saw fit best to own it.

Quite good coverage of the event on TV1, after the weather. Still wandered off at times to Harvards/DC3/Yaks, but the actual SAA aircraft did get a look in.

I believe the sale to the NZ group upset a lot of English people. But who cars, they have plenty of Harriers in their museums. They are relevant to our history too as several kiwi pilots have flown them, some operationally including in the Falklands.
