On my last visit to Omaka there was a BE2 under restoration on display with what looked to me like a newly built engine . The Pither aircraft also had what appear to be a newly built engine .Is there an outfit here in New Zealand making reproduction engines?

Well thank you that is an interesting site . Though not easily identified in my photo the carb shown on the site is fitted to the BE2 , it is under the crankcase at the rear of the engine . Does anyone know anything more about this aircraft . That is an interesting collection of other parts , I wonder what this may tell us about we might see here in the future .

The RAF V-8 that the boys at Omaka built is a work of art. The video on the CAMS website is (I think) the first time it ever started. It ran that day with a modified Chieftain prop and was lovely. In order to draw the horsepower and torque out of it, a prop was cobbled together from old Bandierante blades. In its last hours of running before going into storage, a kiwi-made four blader was fitted. The combination was stunning to watch and listen to. I have only heard it run with mufflers fitted. Even with those fitted, she could be heard anywhere around Omaka while she was running. It will be great to see and hear her fly on the front of the BE-2e in years to come.
