That is when the Government first purchased Ohakea, planning to create an airship base. Muppets, the windiest place in the country would not have been ideal. Ah yes, but it was cheap as chips swampland though.

Thanks Dave,
Love both of those! I would love to build a model of the DH-50 one day from one of the Wingnut kits, but wouldn't know what to base it on? DH4 or 9???
Thanks for the pics
Cheers Anthony

New Zealand's DH50 on a test flight Flight's caption read: "A D.H.50 FOR NEW ZEALAND: This machine has been ordered for survey work, the cabin being specially arranged for the taking of photographs. Our picture shows the 50 on a test flight, piloted by Captain Broad, shortly before its despatch to the Antipodes. In the background is seen a "Moth," piloted by Capt. Geoffrey de Havilland himself."

Yes. These are from various larger size photos I have had hiding away for some years. I'm working my way through them, scanning them for posterity. I'm thinking about another thread, similar to Shorty's "Some photos from my stash" for more recent photos that I have some direct connection to and from my own files.

I'm guessing this is the NZPAF DH50 in the fireground? From the Auckland Weekly News dated 29 April 1931 (Sir George Grey Special Collections, Auckland Libraries, AWNS-19310429-44-1)
