The February Pacific Wings has a note in the news section saying an RNZAF Ventura was discovered at its WWII crash site in the islands late last year.
Does anyone here have more information, particularly which one? And specific location?

I have no further knowledge, and the news item is pretty vague, but browsing through the Ventura file for Solomon Islands losses the following would seem to be possible candidates: NZ4567 - Lost on anti-submarine patrol off Guadalcanal 3Nov44 NZ4570 - Lost on transit flight Vila-Santo 8Aug44 NZ4575 - Missing on ferry flight 10Oct44 NZ4578 - Cr Malaita 28May45 NZ4634 - Cr 20Dec42 ex-Green Island, Guadalcanal, while suppy dropping
All of the rest of them crashed at airfields during the take-off/landing phase, crashed in Fiji or NZ, were lost at sea, or survived the war to be scrapped at a later date.
Not a lot to go on, I know, but maybe more info will surface later.

Thanks Peter, that's much the same conclusion i have drawn. I hope more is released. It would be nice if the bodies could be located too for the families' sakes.
